The pearl found by Kino and his family provoked many different reactions by many different types of people. These included the reaction to feel many tainted feelings like jealousy, anger, or longing. With that we can say the pearls symbolism is one of evil. But there was also the happiness of the family whos possesion the pearl was in. For them the pearl represented a future, new and bright, that could make their life and many others better than ever imagined. With that different information we could say the pearls symbolism is one of the future and of happiness.

Also when the pearl was found human characteristics were prompted to show themselves for the first time in some people. For example, the priest was now greedy along with jealous of Kino and his family because of how rich they had become in such a short moment, this shows clearly when he comes to ask them not to forget their duties to God at the shurch. There's also the overrunning excitement coming from the townspeople who are in hope of earning some share in this money the pearl produces, they all are in the market getting their shops ready and looking with eager eyes to where they have been told Kino will be coming with his famous pearl. Then there was also the human characteristics that have just become to show more prominently than before. Like Kino's protectiveness over his family and their possessions, for he now hides the pearl instead of trusting himself with holding it and he always has a lookout for danger. Also there's Juana and her neighbors curiosity towards the future, all they can talk about is what they would do (or, in juana's case, what she will do) if they had the pearl. And lastly there's the doctor's criminal mindset that includes pinches of jealousy, and a whole bunch of handfulls of greed. how can it not be crimial to try and steal peoples money by giving them fake medicine that to their belief will save their son?!
